Disturbed Earth

During my deconstruction, I would cringe when I would think about all the things I said and did for religion. We each have it...that part of our past that sticks in our minds like splinters. One day, my friends and I were driving through Scotland, enjoying the lush green of everything. In the distance, I noticed something molded into the surface of the earth.

It was covered with grass, but the grass looked different-brighter-in a few spots. One of my friends looked and said, “Look, disturbed earth. Something used to be there”.

At such a profound statement, we all laughed. However, that statement describes my deconstruction wonderfully.

When we leave religion, there will always be evidence left behind of our time there. If people get to know about us, they will see that something used to be there. Let me encourage you that this is precisely as it should be. Sure, we have some scars and painful memories. Deconstruction tends to make a mess. However, there is a growing back that takes place. New green grass grows over our disturbed earth, creating something new and beautiful while not removing the lesson learned. We are healthier and new, yet the remnant of once was can sometimes be seen.

Our process is not one to get rid of our past. We did some of the hard work by leaving. Our disturbed earth reminds us how far we have come and why we should never go back. Now we look forward to what we want to grow within us.

I love helping people who say to me, “Now what?”. I’m here to help. You are worth it.
